Women Rising Exhibition

The Drawing Room will host WOMEN RISING for the third time since March 2020.  The show will take place both at our central hub at 210 Clement Street and our new Annex space at 599 Valencia Street. Showcasing this exhibition in two galleries is intended to connect neighborhoods, communities and artists – all responding and engaging with a single theme and the myriad ways artists are approaching it. The Curation of the two spaces will be symbiotic and will be the best expression of each space.

The 2024 WOMEN RISING Open Call asked Bay Area female-identifying and non-binary artists to submit work that reflects on women’s rights around the world: in many places their erosion and decline as a result of governmental restrictions, war, climate change, immigration, racism and domestic violence. As with all dark things, there are also opposite forces at work resulting in positive change and illumination of movements underway both domestically and internationally, so we encourage artists to shed light on those forces and needs.

The Drawing Room aims to make art and the process of creating art accessible and sustainable through inclusive arts and education events that are free and open to the public. Their efforts are focused on enhancing the overall human experience for San Franciscans by utilizing vacant storefront spaces and harnessing the vibrancy of our artist community to redefine and revitalize the current arts movement in San Francisco.
