Consent Dojo 22: Dr. Stefani Goerlich
For this 22nd edition of the Consent Dojo, Midori is joined by Certified Sex Therapist & Board Certified Clinical Sexologist, Dr. Stefani Goerlich.
Join them as they explore topics such as…
- The influence of Christianity as the “normative” experience of Americans means that many clinicians lack cultural competence in working with members of minority faiths.
- This is doubly true when it comes to sex therapy. Many clinicians assume that the Christian understanding of sexuality is universal, when in actuality many religious traditions (even other Abrahamic traditions) have widely divergent views on sex and intimacy.
- Kinky people from minority faith groups can struggle to find therapists who are culturally competent in both their religious, cultural, and kink community norms.
Stefani, a former seminarian turned Kink-Affirming Sex Therapist is fascinated by these intersectional identities and works to educate her colleagues and clients on how both topics influence their understanding of intimacy, relationships, shame, and sensuality.
