More Than Just Play: BDSM as Neurodivergent Liberation

What do you do when the worst happens and you find out you violated someone’s consent? How do you take accountability for the harm you caused? How do you learn to trust yourself again? How do you figure out what went wrong and how to grow from the experience? How do you reconcile and reintegrate with the community?
Kink is more than play—it’s resistance. For many neurodivergent kinksters, BDSM is a place where we can unmask, regulate, and connect on our own terms. In this presentation by Ari Levine, LPCC, we will dive into how kink can be a tool for liberation, healing, and reclaiming power. We’ll learn about neurodivergence and what it means to be neurodivergent (hint: it’s more than a diagnosis or another label). We’ll unpack how neuronormativity, ableism, and white supremacy shape the stories we’ve been told about what is “healthy” and “normal.” And we’ll explore new frameworks to aid us in dismantling these internalized narratives and consider how BDSM can be used to rewrite them.
Expect real talk, shared stories, and space to explore what it means to be gloriously “too much.” Together, we’ll celebrate BDSM and neurodivergence not as something to fix or explain away, but as a creative, radical, kinky, neurodivergent way of surviving—and thriving—out loud.
