It's the Friday before Halloween, and strange creatures have invaded our towns. As the sun sets, and darkness envelop cities and villages alike, witches, vampires, zombies and Lady Gaga's rise to feed on brains and martinis.

Rooted in ancient celebration of life, magic and unseen mysteries, blending the Celtic, Roman, Christian and other European folkways, Halloween enjoyed a recent period of innocence as children's community-based festival. That is, until the poisoned and bladed apples turned up, created by real monsters living among us. Today, this masked fete's grown up, sexed up and gone international.

Growing up in Japan, I had only heard of Halloween and romanticized the exotic customs told to me by my American relatives. The masked and costumed spectacles sounded so fantastic - never mind that in Japan we had our own transformational festivals. Today, the dress up party aspect of Halloween has caught the imagination of adults in other countries, even those far from European traditions. Everyone shows up, longing for "Eyes Wide Shut" sexiness - but mostly finding 'Wicked' as done by 'the Simpsons'. (Imagine green as done by yellow on donuts.) As for the kids' trick-or-treating, that hasn't translated to other cultures so well. After all, in other countries, children going door to door begging for food in crowded urban apartment buildings would be either a) unimaginably impolite or b) a daily reality.

We flock at the opportunity of being something that we're not in our day-to-day lives. Ironically, we live in a time of near total identity fluidity in the digital realm. On line, we can be who ever or what ever we want to be. We delve deeper and deeper in the realm of constructed identities and go as far as to form communities based on our reinvented selves. I'm sure that the inventors of ARPANET didn't envision Second Life sex parties. We can anticipate future military technology of shape shifting will eventually be used for advanced dress-up sex parties. Ten inches can now be really ten inches.

We relish the masked parties and embrace the opportunity to unleash our alter egos upon the world. No need for deep psychoanalysis to see that we jump on this socially sanctioned occasion to show something of our own truths hidden under the daily masks of the role-play of responsible adulthood.

Women, would you consider being a part of a very special book project? I am turning to all the wonderful women out there for some frank and down-to-earth contributions. I am collecting women's first-person accounts of the detailed physical experience of orgasms. I'm really hoping that some of you can help me out with this. Feel free to pass it on to any women who might be interested.

Details - I am seeking first person descriptions from women about their orgasms.

  • Who: You are a woman, 18 years or older, who have experienced one or more variety of orgasms. (Transwomen! I want your unique perspectives too!)
  • What: Essay of clear and detailed description of your orgasm, from start to finish, focusing on the physical experience, expressed in your own words. When does it start? What's the hint of it? Where does it start? How does it move through your body? What sort of sensations? Imagine trying to illustrate your orgasm to a person who's never had it. This is not about what your partner is doing to you, what they are saying nor euphemistic description of romance or lust.
  • If you have more than one type of orgasm, each variety would be written in a separate essay piece.
  • How Long? As long as it takes for you to describe it. It may be a couple of paragraphs or couple of pages.
  • Credit line: How would you like your essay to be credited? You'll have one or two lines
  • Editing: At most I will edit for grammar, spelling and readability. I want to keep it as true to your original narrative and tone as possible.
  • Send to midori at fhp-inc dot com

  • Thank you!
